Netanyahu canceled meeting with Putin following Trumps example

Israel decided to demonstrate its insult to the Kremlin

One hundred years ago, the First World War ended. The French will have a big holiday in connection with this – solemn events, a big fireworks, many high-ranking guests. Among the visitors will be the leaders of the leading powers of our time. In any case, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin promise to be. Incidentally, they were to hold a formal meeting in Paris and discuss the future of US-Russian relations and all related topics. But, it somehow happened that for the time being, the Helsinki summit will remain one of a kind. Perhaps Trump was bewildered by the elections in the States. Apparently, he decided to postpone everything, not wanting to give additional reasons for inflating hysteria around his alleged connections with the Russian elites. One way or another, this could have an effect on the voting results.

However, after what Trump called the “success” in the elections, the situation may change, and a long conversation with Putin will take place. But so far everything, including Twitter, of the US President says that a full-fledged meeting is possible not earlier than the last day of November – then the next G-20 summit will begin, where presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States are supposed to be.

How much will the post-war reconstruction of a destroyed country cost the Russian budget

Following Trump, the meeting with Putin is also canceled by another guest of the holiday organized by the French. Speech about Benjamin Netanyahu. Yes, the Israelis have long wanted to organize this meeting. They had good reasons for that. Namely – the downed Russian IL-20. They were shot down by Syrians, but due to the fact that they were provoked by Israeli fighters. As a result, Israel was called the main culprit of the tragedy, and this turned out to be grave consequences for him. Russia has supplied Syria with a large number of S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems, which now control almost all of the airspace of the SAR, and of Israel in addition. And for almost two months, the IDF has been practically inactive in Syria. No more sorties, no more bombing. No, of course, there is unconfirmed information that during this time the Israeli Air Force was, after all, seen a couple of times in the Syrian sky, but they did not distinguish themselves by some active actions. Apparently, just a reconnaissance mission after coordination with the Russian military.

In general, Netanyahu and the company are forced to give up their main propaganda trump card – Iran’s opposition to the Middle East’s expansion. And this is very, very painful, and first of all for the rating of the current authorities within the Jewish state. A prime minister’s meeting with the Russian president could change a lot, for Netanyahu often speaks of Putin as his good friend, maybe even his best friend. But Moscow somehow very indifferently reacted to this initiative of Tel Aviv and once even seemed to refuse to organize negotiations at the highest level. Pretty humiliating for the leader of one of the most powerful countries in the Middle East.

However, later, it seems, in the Kremlin, they changed their mind and even wanted to talk with Netanyahu themselves. In general, they agreed on a format – in Paris during events dedicated to the centenary of the end of the First World War. After the cancellation of the meeting of Trump with Putin, this event was to become one of the main ones. Still, this is a step towards overcoming the Russian-Israeli crisis, which, no matter what they say, is.

But again something went wrong. Israeli media have learned that Netanyahu does not want talks with Putin. Moreover, he may not come to Paris at all. What is it? Is he ready to miss such a chance, which, perhaps, he will not have more? Or is it not Netanyahu at all, but in Russia?

There are several versions. According to one of them, Paris is to blame for everything, as if it does not want any serious negotiations between foreign leaders on its territory during festive events. Exactly the same “excuse” came up with to cancel the meeting of Trump with our president. The second reason is more plausible – it is reported that it was Moscow who suddenly reluctantly listened to the Israeli Prime Minister and his excuse. In addition, it is greatly angered by the numerous promises of Israeli high-ranking officials to continue the attacks on Syria, despite the S-300. And the third one – Netanyahu is angry about the behavior of Moscow in Syria.

Russian orientalist Karine Gevorgyan believes that one of the reasons for the cancellation of this meeting may be disagreements over Syria.

  • If an appointment has been made, and then canceled, then, of course, there are some serious diplomatic reasons for this. Perhaps, of course, something more prosaic. Maybe Netanyahu really just canceled his visit to Paris. Israel at this meeting, so to speak, is not a birthday man. Then, during the First World War, Israel did not exist at all. Or maybe everyone’s graphics are too dense, including Netanyahu. But there are other reasons. But this is not the only disagreement between the Russian Federation and Israel. Tel Aviv is very annoyed that Russia cannot apply authority and put pressure on Iran in some way. Netanyahu strongly shows that he really does not like the friendship between Russians and Iranians. He, even for the Israelis themselves, is too categorical in this matter. I communicated with my Israeli friends and colleagues. Of course, they don’t talk a lot in the open, but in informal conversations they say that this anti-Iran hysteria takes on quite dangerous forms. For example, the arrest of the former Energy Minister Gonen Segev (accused of spying for Iran). This summer is an indicative action. Because he led secret negotiations with Iran. Not openly, of course, but through Jordan. By this Netanyahu made it clear that the thaw in relations with Tehran is generally unacceptable. It’s just that Netanyahu is trying to score points on anti-Iranian hysteria due to problems within the country — for example, an anti-corruption investigation is underway now — and it raises the stakes each time. For me, this is quite obvious, and behind all this a lot of other things are hidden. In addition, such meetings are usually canceled when there is practically nothing to say to each other. When it is obvious that the meeting will not have a result. There is no point in ineffectiveness, so perhaps this is one of the reasons for the cancellation of these negotiations.
